 CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

SUNDAY SCHOOL

Christian education is a very important component of our church life. We appreciate the value of a solid Christian education foundation for our youth.

Our nursery and elementary classes are located in two newly refinished bright and cheery rooms. They are filled with age appropriate toys and learning materials. Sunday school lessons include a prayer, a Bible lesson, a project or game related to the lesson and songs. We occasionally watch theme related movies or take walks in the wooded trails behind the church. We have lessons each Sunday that start after the children’s sermon during our regular service.

We use the “Seasons of the Spirit” curriculum for all classes and we supplement the older classes with a curriculum that was designed by the Christian Education Committee to allow for more in depth Bible Study.

Our classes make bags or baskets for our shut-ins that are delivered on Valentines, Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Each year we attempt to develop a new Outreach Project. Last Christmas we sent Prayer Bears and little gifts to our troops overseas.

ADULT EDUCATION

Various programs of adult Christian education are available. Reverend Hurst tailors educational programs to the needs and desire of church members. Currently there is a Wednesday night bible study program being offered.

At present we have two Bible and/or book studies in process.

One is in the evening on Wednesday at 7pm, and the other is Thursday mornings 10am to 11am. The evening study group has read The Purpose Driven Life, by Rick Warren and How Shall We Worship, by Marva Dawn among others.

The morning group reads the weekly scriptures from the lectionary and background information is given on the texts. Usually very lively and informative discussion follows.

The purpose of adult education is to edify members and friends about what the Word is about and how it applies to our daily lives. But for a church it is essential for people to know and understand, to question and debate freely what is said, what is meant and to discern what God’s message for us. Adult Bible Study will strengthen an individual’s faith and truly educate. As a mentor of mine once said, "As one believes, one knows, one becomes wise." So Bible study really is shaped and built around congregational needs, infusing always God’s message and grace into all that we say and do as a church. Bible study gives us more knowledge and wisdom to help the entire congregation act as disciples of our Lord.
